Amazon Awarded $4.6 Million in Attorneys’ Fees for Patent MDL (1)

Amazon.com Inc. will receive $4.6 million in attorneys’ fees and $203,000 in litigation costs for its victory in drawn-out patent multidistrict litigation by PersonalWeb Technologies against over 80 Amazon web service customers.

Patent owner PersonalWeb dismissed an earlier case in which it argued Amazon’s web storage services infringed eight of its patents on accessing data files. It then sued Amazon’s customers for infringing some of the same patents, but the trial court barred the suit. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed in June.
