Mexico Temporarily Increases Steel Import Tariffs

Mexico will temporarily increase tariffs on steel imports to 15 percent for the next six months, it announced in an Oct. 6 decree in the Official Federal Diary.

Mexico will modify the tariff levels for steel imports in its Law for General Import and Export Tariffs by presidential decree, with exemptions made for auto and auto parts companies, electricity-generation and associated companies and electronics companies, as well as for countries with which it has applicable free trade agreements. It will be effective immediately and will be in effect for the following 180 days.
