Expired Trade Program Gets Shot at Revival in House Budget Bill

House Ways and Means Democrats aim to revive an expired program that helps workers and others who lose their jobs because of global trade, along with related initiatives for students, farmers, and others.

The committee’s majority included provisions to bolster Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers in its portion of the budget reconciliation package. The previous program expired July 1, reverting to a more limited version, and the legislative proposal would boost the program’s benefits and eligibility.
