Coal Firms Are Showing the Pain of China’s Australia Trade War

Australian coal miners have revealed the extent of the damage being caused to their business by the trade dispute between Canberra and Beijing, with little optimism that relations will improve any time soon.

China suspended purchases last year of Australian coal -- along with a broad range of commodities -- as diplomatic tensions between the two countries ratcheted up, cutting off one of the industry’s biggest markets. There’s been little sign of relations improving so far this year, despite reports that a trickle of cargoes have been unloaded at Chinese ports after their carriers were stranded at sea.
