China Halts Import of Two Taiwan Apple Varieties on Pests (1)

China said it will halt the import of two varieties of Taiwan apples to prevent the risk of plant disease epidemics after finding pests in shipments this year.

The government will suspend imports of sugar apples and wax apples from Taiwan starting Sept. 20 after repeatedly detecting Planococcus minor on the fruit, China’s General Administration of Customs said in a statement on its website Sunday.

The agency will stop accepting customs declarations for the Taiwanese fruit and will notify relevant enterprises of the situation, it said.
