Travelers Skirts Attorney’s Suit Over Oil Spill Claim Payments

Travelers Indemnity Co. escaped paying for a policyholder’s legal expenses related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, after the Eight Circuit said the insurance policy doesn’t cover such outlays.

The policyholder, Timothy S. Parker, and his Parker Law Firm held business property and commercial liability coverage from Travelers. They had been sued by PS Finance LLC for allegedly skirting a contract to pay the legal financing firm money recovered by Parker’s client for damages from the 2010 industrial disaster.
