Trans Professor, Arizona Seek Early Judgment in Insurance Case

A transgender University of Arizona professor and the state are asking a federal district court to end a long-running dispute over whether Arizona’s employee health plan must pay for gender-confirming health care.

The plan’s blanket exclusion on paying for certain procedures discriminates against transgender people on the basis of sex, in violation of the equal protection clause and Title VII, Russell Toomey told the US District Court for the District of Arizona in a filing supporting his motion for summary judgment.
