Oregon Law to Possibly Delay Family-Leave Insurance Benefits

Oregon may delay paying family-leave insurance benefits under a bill Gov. Tina Kotek (D) signed May 8 that went into effect immediately.

SB 31 requires the state employment department director to determine whether the family-leave insurance trust fund is solvent by Aug. 11. The director will determine solvency based on the amount of benefits anticipated to be claimed as well as any grants anticipated to be awarded on or after Sept. 3.

If the director determines the fund to be solvent, the bill keeps the start date for family-leave insurance benefits as Sept. 3.
