U.K. Bans Sabre Travel Deal That U.S. Failed to Topple (1)

Sabre Corp.’s bid to buy airline booking rival Farelogix Inc. was blocked by the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority, two days after a U.S. effort to scuttle the transaction was thwarted in court.

The $360 million deal would increase fees and curb new features for software that helps airlines sell flights via travel agents, the London-based CMA said in a statement on Thursday. It said Sabre was unlikely to develop technology to compete with Farelogix’s product that allows air passengers to book options such as special meals or extra leg room.
