Starbucks’ Union Resistance Draws Request for Bargaining Order

A National Labor Relations Board official is seeking an extraordinary bargaining order against Starbucks Corp. based on the company’s alleged labor law violations and refusal to recognize a union as representing workers at a Kansas City-area store.

St. Louis Regional Director Andrea Wilkes asked in a consolidated complaint filed this week for an order under the board’s 1949 ruling in Joy Silk Mills, a precedent that requires employers to recognize and bargain with unions that have a majority support from workers, barring a good faith reason to doubt that support.
