U.S. Regulators Start Investigation of Exelon Lobbying Activity

U.S. securities regulators are investigating Exelon Corp.’s lobbying activities, the latest turn in an Illinois corruption probe that analysts say probably cost the company’s top utility executive her job.

The Securities and Exchange Commission told Exelon and its Commonwealth Edison utility unit about the probe on Oct. 22, the company said Thursday in a regulatory filing.

The disclosure raises the stakes for Exelon. The company had previously said that it had been served with two grand jury subpoenas related to a federal probe of an Illinois state senator. The latest revelation raises the prospect the company itself may be ...
