She most recently served as general counsel and corporate secretary for razor and lighter maker BIC Corp. Langley succeeds Marisa Iasenza, who resigned Dec. 31 to become a managing director at investment firm KKR & Co. in New York.
Langley starts Feb. 28 at an annual base salary of $440,000, Edgewell said in a securities filing. The company paid her a $150,000 bonus to join Edgewell.
Benzene, a known carcinogen, has been found in several of Edgewell’s Banana Boat sunscreens, including some made for children, Bloomberg News reported last year. The company recalled three Banana Boat sprays in December after an Australian regulator issued a benzene-related warning.
In addition to Langley’s salary and bonus, she is receiving $350,000 in restricted stock, $325,000 in other stock equivalents, and $65,000 in stock options, according to an Edgewell securities filing.
Iasenza, who was hired in 2018, received nearly $1.5 million in total compensation during 2021, according to the company’s most recent proxy statement. She owns nearly $1.7 million in Edgewell stock, according to Bloomberg data.
Edgewell was formed in 2015 when the company separated from what is now battery maker Energizer Holdings Inc. Edgewell’s other personal care assets include feminine care brands Carefree and Playtex, Edge shaving gel, and Cremo skin care, which it bought in 2020 for paid $235 million.
Edgewell’s portfolio of brands and its “people-first culture” drew Langley to the company, she said in a statement. Langley hopes to “leverage my extensive experience leading global, high-performing teams” at the company, she said.
Langley began her legal career in 2000 and spent most of the following decade as an associate at Paul Hastings; Weil, Gotshal & Manges; and Shipman & Goodwin.
Alcoholic beverage company Diageo PLC hired her in 2008. She spent the next seven years in a variety of in-house roles, including general counsel of Diageo Guinness USA and Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd.
Langley joined BIC in late 2015 and was the company’s supply chain general counsel prior to taking over its top general counsel position last year from Steven Burkhart, who joined Ballard Spahr as an of counsel.
BIC, owned by France’s Société Bic SA, didn’t respond to a request for comment about who will succeed Langley as the top lawyer for its U.S. business, which is also based in Shelton.
