ANALYSIS: Companies Urged to Live Up to Racial Justice Pledges

In the wake of George Floyd’s death last May and the nationwide movement to address systematic racism, several large companies pledged to support racial justice within their organizations and the communities they serve. Ahead of the 2021 annual meeting season, shareholders have been asking companies to take more concrete actions to meet their promises.

I reviewed companies’ proxy statements filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2019 to March 2021 that included shareholder proposals on racial justice and other similar issues such as diversity and pay gap.
