President Donald Trump called on Congress to act to rein in surprise medical bills, including a ban on the practice of “balance billing.”

The White House, hoping legislation will move this year, signaled to lawmakers that patients shouldn’t face out-of-network fees from hospitals and doctors for emergency services, and that doctors shouldn’t be allowed to bill their patients separately in some instances.

Trump also publicly endorsed drug re-importation as way to bring down costs. “We may allow states to buy drugs in other countries if we can buy them for a substantially less price,” he said at the White House ...
