Western Michigan Athletes Win Injunction Against Vaccine Mandate

Four members of the Western Michigan University women’s soccer team, citing religious objections, convinced a federal judge to grant a preliminary injunction that prevents the school from keeping them off the team if they don’t get vaccinated for Covid-19.

The plaintiffs—Emily Dahl, Hannah Redoute, Bailey Korhorn, and Morgan Otteson—applied for religious exemptions from the vaccine requirement but were denied, according to their complaint.

The athletes have established they’re likely to prevail on the claim that the requirement violates their First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan said.
