USC’s New $215 Million Sex Abuse Settlement Gets Judge’s OK

The University of Southern California’s $215 million proposed class action settlement to resolve sexual abuse allegations against an on-campus gynecologist got a federal judge’s tentative approval June 13.

Dr. George M. Tyndall allegedly abused hundreds of women while working at the Los Angeles-based USC between 1989 and 2016. The university itself was accused of covering up and enabling the misconduct.

In addition to establishing a monetary fund for Tyndall’s victims, the University has agreed to implement new procedures for preventing and reporting misconduct on campus and while receiving care at the student health center. The school will also make other ...
