Urgent Care Network to Pay $22 Million Over Billing Credentials (1)

The largest urgent care provider network in South Carolina will pay $22.5 million to settle a whistleblower’s allegations it improperly billed Medicare and other federal health-care programs for services provided by physicians who didn’t have billing credentials with those programs, the Department of Justice said.

The provider network, Doctors Care P.A., and its management company, UCI Medical Affiliates of South Carolina Inc., tried to hide their providers’ lack of billing credentials by linking claims for their services to providers who had proper credentials, the DOJ said in a statement Thursday.
