UnitedHealth Subsidiary OptumRx Sued for $30 Million in Ohio

UnitedHealth subsidiary OptumRx allegedly bilked the nation’s largest state-run workers comp program out of millions of dollars’ worth of generic drug discounts, according to an Ohio Attorney General lawsuit seeking more than $30 million.

On March 18, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost promised that his lawsuit against pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) OptumRx was only his opening salvo in a battle against companies that act as intermediaries between drugmakers and purchasers such as state-run and employer-sponsored health plans. The issue for Yost and other officials is their ability to profit from secretive drug transactions.
