Transgender Discrimination Rules Shut Down by Federal Court

The Obama administration may not enforce regulations intended to stop discrimination in health care based on sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, a federal judge in Texas said Dec. 31 (Franciscan Alliance, Inc. v. Burwell, N.D. Tex., No. 16-cv-108, 12/31/16).

The lawsuit, brought by Christian health-care providers and five states, challenges regulations they claim impose a “transgender mandate” that would force doctors to perform gender transition procedures contrary to their medical judgment and religious beliefs.
