A state-sponsored health insurance plan envisioned by Washington state’s Democratic governor as a step toward universal health care appears headed for passage in the state Legislature.
Different versions of Gov. Jay Inslee’s bill—dubbed Cascade Care—have seen success, with the Senate passing its measure (ESSB 5526) late March 13 by a 36-to-13 vote with bipartisan support. The House passed its Cascade Care bill March 8.
