Senate’s FDA Fee Plan Would Boost Diagnostic, Cosmetic Oversight (1)

The FDA would get expanded authority over cosmetics, dietary supplements, and lab-developed tests under a Senate proposal to reauthorize the user fees that help fund the agency.

The proposals were unveiled in a discussion draft Tuesday by leaders of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee—a step toward full passage of the agreements between the Food and Drug Administration and the drug and device industries. The legislation must be reauthorized before the current user fee agreements expire Sept. 30.
