Penalties in Federal Rx Discount Program Face Another Delay

Federal health officials are seeking a fifth delay to an Obama-era rule imposing penalties on drug companies that overcharge safety-net hospitals.

The move to push back the effective date of a rule completed in the final weeks of the Obama administration has again raised fears drugmakers may never be forced to reveal to some hospitals how much they should be paying for some medicines. Groups that represent safety-net hospitals, which benefit from deep discounts through the federal drug discount program, said they were “dismayed” by the proposed delay.
