Abortion rights advocates have asked a federal court to temporarily block a Georgia law from taking effect that bans abortion as early as six weeks after a woman’s last menstrual cycle.
The American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Georgia, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and Planned Parenthood filed a motion for preliminary injunctive relief July 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on behalf of a coalition of abortion providers throughout the state that has challenged the law. Absent a court order, the law is set to take effect Jan. 1.
