Obamacare Exchange Exit Option for States Threatens Enrollment

Obamacare enrollment could plunge if states take advantage of a Trump administration proposal that would let them follow Georgia’s lead and exit the Affordable Care Act exchanges.

Georgia got the go-ahead in November to bypass the federal HealthCare.gov exchange starting in 2023 and instead direct consumers to sign up for ACA plans through web brokers or health insurers. The administration’s proposed rule would allow other states to do the same without having to get federal approval.
