NY Lawmakers Advance Abortion Constitutional Amendment (1)

New York lawmakers passed an amendment on Tuesday to codify reproductive rights into the state’s Constitution and expand the list of protected classes, prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression.

The proposal aims to prohibit discrimination that results from the actions of employers, state governments, or other institutions. The next step to ensuring the changes go into the state Constitution will be at the ballot box in 2024. If voters approve, discrimination will then be barred in a host of other categories including race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, creed, religion, or sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ...
