Nominee to Lead Medicare, Medicaid Moves Closer to Confirmation

President Joe Biden’s pick to lead further expansion of the Affordable Care Act, Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Wednesday moved one step closer to confirmation by the full Senate.

The Senate voted 51-48 to discharge the nomination of Brooks-LaSure to serve as administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. A final vote on her confirmation could occur as early as next week, according to the office of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). There will likely need to be one intervening vote to cut off debate.
