NIH’s Sexual, Gender Minority Definition Made More Inclusive (1)

The NIH is expanding its definition of sexual and gender minorities in a move to bring more attention to a group facing health disparities that isn’t studied as much as other minorities.

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, a part of the National Institutes of Health, announced the change Aug. 30.

The updated definition now includes those who don’t necessarily identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex but whose identity or orientation doesn’t fall into traditional binary notions of gender, orientation, or sex, according to the notice.
