New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett submitted her resignation Friday, having held the position a little more than a year.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who begins her first full four-year term in office Jan. 1, will be charged with replacing Bassett.
Bassett, 70, the state’s first Black health commissioner, will leave the department effective Jan. 1 and return to the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, she said in a statement.
