New York Judge Blocks $250 Million State Medicaid Cut

A New York judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking a planned $250 million state cut in Medicaid funding for nursing homes.

The Nov. 7 order by acting Justice Kimberly O’Connor of the state Supreme Court, Albany County, granted a motion by a coalition of nursing homes and associations suing the state over the retroactive funding reduction. The cut, set by the state Health Department as part of a budget adjustment, drew opposition from state legislative leaders, the 1199SEIU/United Healthcare Workers East labor union, and advocacy groups.
