New Medicare Appeals Rules Have Lawyers Scrambling

Lawyers are scrambling to make sense of a new set of rules and a new electronic filing system recently dropped on their desks that will be used for appealing Medicare reimbursement determinations.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued new rules related to appealing Medicare reimbursement determinations to the Provider Reimbursement Review Board (PRRB). The rules, effective Aug. 29, could reduce the paperwork attorneys have to submit, but require more complete briefings from the start.
