Missouri’s 20-Week Abortion Ban Remains Blocked for Now

Missouri may not enforce a ban on abortions beginning at 20 weeks after a woman’s last menstrual period pending appeal, a federal court in Missouri said.

The state offered “little to legally justify prohibitions that are facially contrary to the Supreme Court’s blanket protection” of a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy before a fetus is able to live outside the womb, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri said Sept. 18.

Judge Howard F. Sachs denied Missouri’s request to lift an injunction he imposed against the 20-week ban in August.
