Mississippi’s Only Abortion Clinic Challenges New Six-Week Ban

Jackson Women’s Health Organization wants a federal trial court to stop Mississippi from enforcing a law that would bar almost all abortions in the state.

The law banning abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, an event that can occur as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, is unconstitutional, the state’s only licensed abortion provider told the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi March 28.

Jackson Women’s asked the court for permission to add claims over the six-week law to its suit, which successfully challenged a Mississippi law prohibiting abortions performed after 15 weeks’ gestation. It...
