Mississippi Seeks Review of Order Striking 15-Week Abortion Law

Mississippi wants a federal appeals court to overturn a decision striking a law that bans abortions after a fetus reaches 15 weeks gestation.

The state Dec. 17 told the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi that it is appealing a November ruling that permanently barred the state from enforcing the law. The restriction was “unequivocally” unconstitutional, Judge Carlton W. Reeves said.

The case now moves to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. From there, it could go to the U.S. Supreme Court, where it could become a vehicle for overturning or severely limiting current...
