A Mississippi law that would ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat has been detected was blocked by a federal judge May 24.
“Here we go again,” Judge Carlton W. Reeves wrote in his order granting a preliminary injunction.
Reeves blocked a similar Mississippi law in 2018 that banned abortions after 15 weeks on the grounds that it was unconstitutional.
During oral arguments May 21 about the law that would have banned abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, Reeves said it “smacks of defiance to this court.”
