Michigan Nurses Agree to New Contract in Tight Labor Market

A Michigan union representing about 6,200 University of Michigan Health nurses announced Thursday a tentative agreement as nurses employed in other Midwest states continue to push for contracts addressing health-care staffing shortages.

The Michigan Nurses Association-University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council, an affiliate of National Nurses United and the AFL-CIO, announced a tentative agreement with the university on Thursday concluding talks that began in March. But unions representing nurses in Illinois and Minnesota continue negotiating about what they claim are nursing shortages that impair patient care.
