Medicare Payment Bump Proposed for Psychiatric, Rehab Facilities

Inpatient rehabilitation facilities would see an extra $160 million in payments from Medicare in fiscal year 2022, while inpatient psychiatric facilities would net an extra $90 million under proposed rules issued Wednesday by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The proposed rule for psychiatric facilities (RIN 0938-AU40) includes revisions to the quality reporting program that would cut nearly $21 million in costs from the facilities’ information collection requirements in fiscal year 2023.

Similar quality reporting program provisions in the proposed rule for inpatient rehabilitation facilities (RIN 0938-AU38) would add an estimated $487,000 in costs for the facilities in 2022....
