Medicare Appeal Over Denial of Bad Debt Payment Filed Too Soon

Forty-eight long-term care hospitals may not seek court review of an HHS board’s decision denying them reimbursement for uncompensated care they provided to patients eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, a federal court in the District of Columbia said.

The Provider Reimbursement Review Board’s decision denying the hospitals Medicare money to pay for care that might have been covered by Medicaid in certain states wasn’t a final reviewable decision, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said Tuesday.
