Medical Student With ADHD, Dyslexia Gets Extra Time for Boards

The National Board of Medical Examiners must give a medical student who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia extra time to take a three-step examination she must pass to remain in medical school and apply for a physician’s license, the Third Circuit said Friday.

Jessica Ramsay proved that she is likely to win on the merits of her claim that she has a disability that requires accommodation under the Americans With Disabilities Act, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said. The court affirmed a lower court order requiring the board to accommodate Ramsay.
