Massachusetts Workers Must Cut ER Visits, Businesses Say

Massachusetts businesses will urge their employees not to use emergency rooms for routine care as a way to save almost $100 million.

Massachusetts has one of the highest rates of unnecessary emergency room use in the nation. Reducing emergency room use is a direct way of bringing down the cost of health care for employers and insurers, according to Rick Lord, CEO of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), which represents 4,000 businesses in the state.
