Idaho Running Out of Time as Feds Weigh Health Coverage Shift

Idaho officials are on edge as they await the federal government’s response to their request to implement a first-of-its-kind proposal to let some low-income people choose between remaining on Obamacare or enroll in Medicaid.

The state is running out of time with two crucial dates on the horizon: Enrollment for the state’s insurance marketplace begins Nov. 1, and its expansion of Medicaid to those earning up to 138% of the federal poverty line takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.

The decision from the federal government will determine the coverage available to more than 18,000 Idaho residents currently enrolled in Obamacare.
