HHS Revokes Medicaid Work Rules for Arkansas, New Hampshire (1)

The Department of Health and Human Services took its first formal step towards rolling back work requirements in Medicaid, informing Arkansas and New Hampshire that it was withdrawing must-work provisions approved under the Trump administration.

The move, in letters to Medicaid directors in each state, appears to be the first time that the HHS has rescinded an already approved state pilot project under Section 1115 of the Social Security Act. That provision allows the federal government to waive Medicaid requirements for states testing new approaches to coverage and payment under the low-income health program.
