Health Apps Push Has IT Pros Questioning Who’s Guarding Data (1)

There’s a smartphone-sized hole in an upcoming rule to protect private patient data while making it easier to share that information, IT advocates warn.

The rule, expected soon, is meant to give patients free access to their health information and prevent providers and health tech vendors from improperly sharing or withholding the data. It would require app makers to build interfaces allowing that information to be shared in an effort to make patient data more accessible.
