Groups Challenge Trump Administration’s Asbestos Evaluation (1)

Scientists and public health groups started a legal fight Tuesday over the Trump administration’s final chemical evaluation of asbestos.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, or ADAO, and others asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to review the former administration’s final risk assessment for asbestos, which they said doesn’t fully address the chemical’s risks under the Toxic Substances Control Act.

The EPA published its final risk evaluation for cancer-causing chrysotile asbestos on Dec. 30, concluding that 16 of 32 uses of the material pose unreasonable risks to human health, including workers and consumers. The groups said in ...
