Government Denied More Time for Conscience Rule Case Filings

The federal government lost its attempt to delay a lawsuit challenging a rule allowing health-care workers to deny care or information to patients based on their religious beliefs

The Health and Human Services Department’s request to suspend briefing on San Francisco’s motion to block the rule from taking effect was denied June 27 by Judge William Alsup of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The HHS asked for time to file a motion for pretrial judgment instead.
