Gerber, Beech-Nut Sued Over Heavy Metals in Baby Foods (2)

Gerber Products Co. and Beech-Nut Nutrition Co. face proposed class suits in New Jersey and New York federal courts alleging the companies’ iconic baby foods are deceptively touted as healthful and natural, when they contain dangerous levels of lead and other heavy metals.

The Feb. 5 suits follow publication of a House Oversight Subcommittee report saying the companies are among a group of seven manufacturers whose products have “significant levels” of heavy metals, including arsenic, lead, and mercury.
