Four individuals and the seven pharmacies in Florida and Texas they operated were charged with engaging in a roughly $1 billion telemedicine fraud scheme related to large markups of invalidly prescribed drugs.

The Department of Justice Oct. 15 announced the four individuals and their companies were charged in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. They face charges including conspiracy to commit health-care fraud, mail fraud, and introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce.
