FDA Road Maps for Preventative Drugs Bolster Trump’s HIV Plan

Clinical trials for preventative HIV medications for adults and children need to emphasize the importance of regularly taking the drugs, the FDA said in March 19 guidance to the pharmaceutical industry.

The Food and Drug Administration’s advice to the industry is central to President Donald Trump’s vow to halt the disease by 2030. Trump has touted combating HIV in the U.S. as one of his top priorities. In his FY 2020 budget request last week he asked to set aside $291 million for HIV-related programs.
