Enforcement Discretion for No Surprises Act Provision Extended

Enforcement discretion for some medical cost estimates made to people without health insurance was extended until the Department of Health and Human Services issues rules. Enforcement discretion had been scheduled to end Jan. 1, 2023.

“HHS is extending enforcement discretion, pending future rulemaking, for situations where GFEs [good faith estimates] for uninsured (or self-pay) individuals do not include expected charges from co-providers or co-facilities,” the agency said in guidance released Friday.
