Elections are typically decided at the ballot box. But in recent years, the judicial system has been increasingly involved too.

Spending on election-related litigation has ballooned, according to George Washington University Law School professor Spencer Overton. It’s one more indication that political fights aren’t ending when the results are announced. Instead they’re migrating to courthouses across the country, says Overton.
