Dedicated Funding Called Key to Vaccine Maker Role in Pandemics

Drug companies won’t continue to partner with the federal government to develop the sorts of technologies that led to the quick creation of Covid-19 vaccines and therapeutics if it doesn’t sustain and increase its commitment to pandemic preparedness, a top federal health official said.

The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority—a federal agency that helps develop medical countermeasures against emerging diseases—needs dedicated and consistent funding so it can make multiple investments for future pandemics and “ensure the highest probability of success,” Director Gary Disbrow said in an interview with Bloomberg Law.
